San Diego Dentist
At the office of Paul Taylor, DMD – Advanced Dentistry, you will experience how state-of-the-art technologies can ensure accuracy, efficiency, and comfort on your every visit. You can be sure that the dental equipment we use is safe, effective, and well-maintained. Some of the dental technologies we may employ on your behalf may include those listed below:
Digital X-Rays
Our advanced digital X-rays magnify and enhance your teeth for better diagnosis and treatment. This superior form of X-ray technology allows us to take an image of your teeth and display it on a computer screen quickly and easily.
With this program, we are able to use a number of tools that will allow us to take a closer look at your teeth and surrounding structures with remarkable accuracy. Digital X-rays can give us the information we need to more effectively plan your dental treatment. Typically, these X-rays are taken before treatment begins, but we may take additional X-rays during and after treatment in order to chart your progress.
Digital X-rays also require much less radiation than traditional film X-rays. Digital X-rays are safe, effective, fast and informative.
Intra-oral Camera
The intra-oral camera is a very small device, about the size and shape of a pen. It is used to record images of your teeth, gums, mouth, and tongue from inside your mouth. Due to its small size and sleek design, it is comfortable, easy to use, and able to view a wide range of angles. The intra-oral camera is a safe and effective tool that can be used with patients of every age.
The intra-oral camera device is connected to a full color display screen and to a computer. Due to its small size and sleek shape, the intra-oral camera can view and record detailed images of your teeth from angles not visible to the naked eye. What’s more, the images it captures can be immediately viewed on the display screen by both you and Dr. Taylor.
Dr. Taylor finds the ability to immediately view digital images of your teeth to be a highly valuable resource for both diagnosis and treatment planning. With the intra-oral camera’s digital imagery, the patient can see very clearly what the dentist sees. It also helps when communicating with insurance companies.
What our patients most appreciate is that, by utilizing the viewing feature of the intra-oral camera, we can show you exactly what dental health issues we find. This has led to improved communication between our dental team and our patients. In addition, this visual medium assists our patients with greater understanding of the reasons and goals for our treatment recommendations.
Each time the intra-oral camera is used, a new disposable cover is employed, to ensure your health and safety at all times. After your exam, images captured by the intra-oral camera may be digitally stored, printed out, or deleted, depending on the individual need. We can even print them out for you or email them to you.
Soft Tissue Lasers
With two soft tissue lasers at his disposal, Dr. Taylor can provide precise high-quality treatments that are relatively pain-free, less invasive, and useful for a wide variety of dental treatments.
A laser is essentially a tiny beam of highly concentrated light. This beam can be used to provide pinpoint accuracy in treatments. Because the laser sterilizes the tissues and seals off blood vessels as it is used, the chance of infection or bleeding following laser treatment is minimal. The soft tissue laser is minimally-invasive, but highly effective.
With the highly versatile soft tissue laser, Dr. Taylor is able to seal nerve endings and blood vessels and treat soft tissues simultaneously. This creates less stress on the gums, which significantly reduces both swelling and bleeding. Moreover, by using the soft tissue laser, Dr. Taylor minimizes his patients’ discomfort both during and after the treatment and even lessens their recovery time.
Dr. Taylor uses soft tissue laser technology to provide his patients with precise dental care with a comfortable dental experience.
Cavitron
The Cavitron is a handheld device used in periodontal deep cleaning. While scaling can be completed by hand, the Cavitron uses ultrasonic technology to remove calculus from teeth and gums quickly, gently and effectively.
With the Cavitron, patient and hygienist comfort is increased and time spent scaling and polishing is decreased.
Dexis Carivu™
Dexis Carivu™ is a new, compact, portable decay detection device that uses a patented transillumination technology. This technology uses light to produce an image similar to that of an x-ray, but without the x-ray exposure. CariVu is safe for patients of any age and can be particularly helpful for patients with small mouths or strong gag reflex.
With the CariVu, we are able to safely and effectively detect cracks and tooth decay as we view the scan on a high-definition monitor. Also, with the CariVu technology, we can reduce the need for X-ray exposure by roughly 50% over time.
